Woodrum brings more than a decade of experience across the public and private sectors, with end-to-end sanctions expertise spanning regulatory development, policy, licensing and civil enforcement. He will work within Akin’s international trade and sanctions practice, focusing on complex sanctions matters and emerging technology-related risks, including digital assets and cryptocurrency.
Immediately prior to rejoining the firm, Woodrum served at the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) as Assistant Director for Regulatory Affairs, where he led the development of regulations, general licenses and other core implementation tools and played a key role in shaping sanctions provisions under the GENIUS Act. He previously served as a Section Chief in OFAC’s Enforcement Division, helping to lead enforcement efforts relating to digital assets, cryptocurrency and emerging technology.
Woodrum first joined Akin in 2012 as a summer associate and departed the firm in 2021 to take a position at OFAC. His return strengthens Akin’s internationally recognized sanctions practice and adds to the firm’s bench of former senior OFAC officials.
