Banco Português de Fomento appoints Miguel Barbosa as general counsel
"Banco Português de Fomento appoints Miguel Barbosa as general counsel. He joins from the Mutual Guarantee System and will lead the bank's legal team, working in banking, capital and investment."
Barbosa has more than a decade leading the legal function at SGM. Over the last 12 years at SGM he held several roles, coordinated legal teams, combined legal responsibilities with operational management, led Portugal’s four mutual guarantee societies and oversaw their consolidation into a single national entity.
He began his career in law firms working between litigation and general corporate advisory, later specialising in banking, capital and investment. Barbosa also had an intense experience as a law firm manager, which provided leadership and business tools, before transitioning to in‑house roles within the ecosystem of mutual guarantees and public support. He enters Banco Português de Fomento with the seniority of general counsel, having previously served as head of the legal function at SGM.
