Greenberg Traurig Adds Former Commerce Official Joe Bartlett to Washington, D.C., Office
"Joe Bartlett joins Greenberg Traurig in Washington, D.C., as Senior Director to work in Government Law & Policy, International Trade, National Security, and Defense, Aviation & Space."
Bartlett joins Greenberg Traurig from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), where he most recently served as Deputy Under Secretary. He entered the administration in 2025 as Director of Legislative Affairs for BIS and was promoted to Deputy Under Secretary, overseeing policy and operations related to U.S. export control regulations, trade in dual-use technologies, and industrial base policies. Bartlett brings more than a decade of experience that includes progressively senior roles on the House Armed Services Committee and in member offices focused on defense, intelligence, foreign affairs, and trade policy, as well as private-sector experience with a leading American autonomous drone manufacturer. He counsels on matters at the intersection of trade and national security—such as tariffs, export controls, trade policy, industrial and supply chain issues—and holds a master’s degree in Defense and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. Bartlett is not admitted to the practice of law.
