McGuireWoods Adds Partner Brian D. Bewley to Strengthen Healthcare and Life Sciences Team

"McGuireWoods has hired partner Brian D. Bewley in Washington, D.C., to bolster its healthcare and life sciences practice, focusing on regulatory compliance, government investigations and transactions."

Brian D. Bewley has joined McGuireWoods as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.

Bewley brings more than two decades of experience advising healthcare and life sciences companies, private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies on regulatory compliance, government investigations and transactions. His clients have included Fortune 100 corporations, global pharmaceutical and orthopedics companies, hospitals and health systems, medical equipment suppliers, digital health and digital therapeutics companies, long-term care providers and specialty pharmacies. He joins McGuireWoods from Reed Smith.

He counsels private equity sponsors through the full life cycle of healthcare and life sciences investments, from initial platform formation and regulatory due diligence through add-on acquisitions, operational compliance and exit. He is noted for a collaborative approach, providing pragmatic advice and risk mitigation strategies to support growth and value creation for sponsors and portfolio companies.

Bewley has significant experience defending healthcare and life sciences organizations in False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law matters and other government investigations, and his record includes securing multiple declinations and other favorable resolutions for clients.

His public-sector background includes service at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, where he joined HHS in 2005 and later served as senior counsel and team leader for the Office of Counsel to the Inspector General, leading enforcement activities in the Boston, Miami, Dallas and San Francisco regions. During his time at HHS-OIG he was appointed a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney. Earlier in his career he was selected for the U.S. Department of Justice Attorney General’s Honors Program.

Bewley is a frequent speaker on healthcare enforcement trends and private equity investment risk; his commentary has appeared in Politico, Bloomberg Law and PE Hub. He has been recognized on the Thomson Reuters Stand-out Lawyers list.

McGuireWoods leaders said Bewley’s government enforcement insight and business acumen will immediately benefit the firm’s healthcare and life sciences clients. The firm noted Bewley’s arrival continues the expansion of its healthcare and life sciences capabilities following recent additions such as Chicago partner Gregory Fosheim in March 2026 and Amy Cassalia in Raleigh in November 2025.

Bewley said he is excited to join McGuireWoods and to work with a team that combines operational perspective with legal expertise to help clients navigate transactions and government scrutiny.
