Lafferty has extensive experience in all aspects of patent litigation and counseling. He advises clients on a broad range of technologies and matters involving cybersecurity, fiber optics, wireless communication technologies and standards, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, encryption and network security, distributed networks, telecommunications, software applications, FinTech and Standard Essential Patents. He has tried cases in patent venues across the United States and is a registered patent attorney at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Holding a degree in electrical engineering, Lafferty brings a strong technical background to patent disputes involving sophisticated technologies.
Lafferty joins Cahill’s rapidly growing Technology IP platform, enhancing the firm’s capabilities in high‑stakes patent litigation, PTAB proceedings and technology‑focused disputes. He joins a team that includes Chris Campbell, Chair of Cahill’s Technology IP Litigation practice, Britton Davis and Alfonso Garcia Chan, who became part of the firm in April 2025.
