Lawrence Hill Joins Holland & Knight in New York as Partner in Tax Practice

Lawrence "Larry" Hill has joined Holland & Knight in New York as a partner in the firm's Tax, Executive Compensation and Benefits Practice Group.

Mr. Hill is a nationally recognized tax litigator and first-chair trial lawyer who focuses on resolving complex domestic and cross-border civil tax disputes through the IRS administrative process and litigation. He joins Holland & Knight as a partner after serving as a partner at Steptoe LLP, where he was head of the tax controversy practice. His practice has represented financial institutions, multinational corporations, international accounting firms, partnerships, private foundations and high-net-worth individuals, and also encompasses high-profile white collar investigations, criminal matters and congressional investigations.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Hill was a trial attorney and national tax shelter project attorney with the Office of Chief Counsel of the IRS, served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, D.C., and was assistant general counsel to a Big Four accounting firm. He has litigated landmark civil and criminal tax cases, including serving as lead counsel in Cross Refined Coal, LLC v. Commissioner and participating in amicus briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court in Moore v. United States and In re Grand Jury. Mr. Hill has been twice honored by the IRS with special achievement awards and has been recognized in Chambers USA, The Legal 500 USA (Hall of Fame), The Best Lawyers in America and New York Super Lawyers. He holds an LL.M. and a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and a B.A. from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
