Nicholson y Cano names Juan Biset partner in charge of Mining

Juan Biset has joined Nicholson y Cano as a partner, reinforcing the firm’s practice in Mining, Natural Resources and Sustainability.

Biset brings nearly 25 years of experience linked to mining and the sustainable development of natural resources. He has advised companies, multilateral organizations and communities on projects related to responsible resource use and sustainability.

Immediately before joining Nicholson y Cano, he served as Undersecretary of Mining Policy and Mining Sustainability of the Nation, a role from which he promoted initiatives related to sector development. He also served as Secretary of the Federal Mining Council and of the Treaty of Mining Integration and Complementation between Argentina and Chile, bodies key to policy coordination and regional cooperation in the sector.

His professional background includes practicing law in companies, law firms and independently, always focused on mining and natural resources matters. He previously worked in the New York offices of Sullivan & Cromwell, concentrating on corporate and financial matters.

Biset holds a law degree from the University of Buenos Aires with a Diploma of Honour and an LLM from Columbia University, where he graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He is admitted to practice in New York and has obtained certificates from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Sustainability and Sustainable Infrastructure Systems.

He maintains an active academic profile as a teacher and lecturer, is a founding member of the Mining Affairs Working Group at the Argentine Council for International Relations (CARI), and acts as consultant and reviewer for international organizations on mining and sustainability issues.

With this appointment, Nicholson y Cano strengthens its integrated advisory offering for clients in strategic industries by adding a professional with broad experience in the private sector, public management and the challenges of sustainable natural resource development.
