K&L Gates Adds Emily Lavery as Government Affairs Advisor to Public Policy and Law Practice in Washington, DC

"K&L Gates has hired Emily Lavery as a government affairs advisor in its Public Policy and Law practice in Washington, DC; she will focus on tax policy and Republican Senate/Administration engagement."

Emily Lavery has joined global law firm K&L Gates LLP as a government affairs advisor in the firm’s Washington, DC office.

Lavery joins K&L Gates from Fulcrum Public Affairs, where she most recently served as senior vice president and lead for tax policy. She will work in the firm’s Public Policy and Law practice as a government affairs advisor with a focus on tax policy and engagement with Senate Republicans and Republican administrations. At Fulcrum, Lavery developed a practice representing Fortune 500 companies, leading trade associations, major financial services companies, and large-scale real estate funds.

Prior to her work at Fulcrum, Lavery served on Capitol Hill as a senior policy advisor to U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and as staff director for the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Energy, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure. In those roles she advised on tax, trade, judiciary, and economic policy, participated in drafting and passage of legislation related to the Opportunity Zone tax incentive, and worked through multiple rounds of reconciliation, the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, several pandemic relief bills, and the FIRST STEP Act. During her Senate career she secured enactment of multiple bills across tax, trade, judiciary, energy, and natural resources policy areas.

Lavery also previously served as a vice president and investment advisor at a large global private wealth management firm, where she directly managed client assets in excess of $100 million, designed custom investment portfolios, executed trades, and provided analysis on capital markets, federal tax policy, and macroeconomic and geopolitical developments.

Her arrival follows recent additions to K&L Gates’ Public Policy and Law practice and further expands the firm’s bipartisan team of lawyers and policy professionals who advise clients across the policy life cycle.
