Choate Welcomes Marta Garcia to Intellectual Property Litigation Practice

Marta Garcia brings extensive experience in complex patent and intellectual property litigation, representing technology and life sciences companies in high-stakes disputes in federal courts and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Drawing on a technical background in materials science and biomedical engineering, she has managed all phases of litigation from pre-suit analysis through trial and appeal, including developing case strategy, leading dispositive motion briefing, overseeing fact and expert discovery, preparing expert witnesses for deposition and trial, and representing clients in post-grant proceedings such as inter partes review. She also advises on patent strategy, diligence, and risk assessment.
Ms. Garcia joins Choate from Finnegan, where she served as an attorney, and will enter the firm with the seniority of Principal. She holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School and a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering with a minor in Biomedical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is admitted in Massachusetts and California and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
In addition to her practice, Ms. Garcia is active in professional and community organizations: she serves as Chair of the Boston Public Library Board of Trustees, sits on the Board of Directors of Hill House, is a member of the Region I Board of the Hispanic National Bar Association and of the Boston Children’s Museum President’s Council, and belongs to the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Boston Intellectual Property Law Association.
