Greenberg Traurig hires two hospitality attorneys in Phoenix and Los Cabos

"Greenberg Traurig hires Carlos A. Sugich and Carlos Freaner to strengthen its real estate and hospitality practices; Sugich will co-chair the Americas Hospitality Group and lead Los Cabos presence, Freaner joins the Mexico hospitality team."

Carlos A. Sugich and Carlos Freaner have joined Greenberg Traurig as shareholders, bolstering the firm’s real estate and hospitality practices in Phoenix and Mexico.

Carlos A. Sugich joins Greenberg Traurig’s Phoenix office as a shareholder and as co-chair of the Americas Hospitality Group. He will also serve as managing shareholder of the firm’s new presence in Los Cabos, a market he knows well after leading the launch of his prior firm’s Los Cabos office nearly two decades ago. Licensed in both Arizona and Mexico, Sugich brings more than 20 years of experience representing U.S. and international clients in complex domestic and cross-border real estate, hospitality, and development transactions. His practice covers acquisitions, development, joint ventures, financing, and operational matters across the United States, Mexico, and Latin America, with a focus on hospitality, master-planned resort communities, and mixed-use projects, including organization of private golf and social club membership plans. He also advises on international expansions and matters related to nearshoring and manufacturing in Mexico. Sugich holds an LL.M. in international legal studies from New York University School of Law and a J.D. equivalent from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Law.

Carlos Freaner joins Greenberg Traurig’s Mexico team as a shareholder, effective May 7, 2026. He represents national and international investors, hotel and resort operators, and developers in hospitality-focused real estate and M&A transactions across Mexico, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, financings, hotel agreements, condominium developments, and leasing. Freaner has experience advising luxury resorts, golf courses, and master-planned community developers, as well as lenders and borrowers in complex real estate project financing. He holds an LL.M. from the University of San Diego School of Law and a J.D. equivalent from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.
