Mona Bhalla Joins Alston & Bird’s Insurance Litigation & Regulation Team
"Mona Bhalla has joined Alston & Bird’s Insurance Litigation & Regulation Team to advise on insurance regulatory and transactional matters for re/insurance clients."
Bhalla joined Alston & Bird in 2024 after serving for four years as a New York regulator. She brings more than 30 years of combined government and private sector experience to the firm and, two years after joining, is now able to practice without the restrictions applicable to former New York insurance regulators.
While at the New York State Department of Financial Services, Bhalla served as deputy superintendent for the Life Bureau, where she oversaw 650 regulated entities and managed 130 professionals responsible for regulating the New York life insurance industry. In that role she established standards for financial solvency, market conduct, and corporate oversight and ensured compliance through regulation and monitoring.
At Alston & Bird Bhalla will apply her multidisciplinary perspective to help clients — including global, national, and regional re/insurance companies — resolve regulatory issues, consummate deals, and pursue broader business objectives. Alston & Bird’s Insurance Litigation & Regulation Team provides a comprehensive range of insurance-related legal services, including defense of large-scale policyholder class actions and antitrust matters, high-profile coverage and bad-faith disputes, regulatory counseling and product development, and representation in market conduct examinations, attorney general investigations, and enforcement actions.
