Cleary Gottlieb Adds Matthew Schwartz as Partner to Americas M&A and Private Equity Transactions Group

Schwartz advises a range of private equity sponsors from mid‑market to large‑cap funds, as well as sovereign wealth funds and their portfolio companies, on leveraged buyouts, growth equity investments and other complex transactions. He joins Cleary’s M&A and private equity teams with a focus on private capital matters.
He has extensive experience in sports investment, was recognized by Law360 as a Rising Star for his work in Sports & Betting, and previously served as interim chief legal officer for LIV Golf.
Schwartz joins an experienced group of private equity and M&A practitioners at Cleary Gottlieb, a team noted in 2025 among the top 10 law firms for M&A globally and ranked second for average deal size; the firm has advised on more than $300 billion in transactions in the prior year and in excess of $1.3 trillion for clients globally over the past five years.
