DLA Piper adds Kathryn Mitchell as Policy Advisor in Government Affairs and Public Policy

Kathryn Mitchell has joined DLA Piper as a Policy Advisor in the firm’s Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) practice.

Mitchell will support companies and investors as they engage with policymakers on advanced technologies and regulatory frameworks. She joins DLA Piper as a Policy Advisor and brings more than 12 years of experience across the legislative and executive branches.

Most recently, Mitchell served as Chief of Staff at the CHIPS Research & Development Office at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). In that role she engaged daily with the White House, the Office of the Secretary, Cabinet-level front offices, and Congressional leadership, helping shape and implement programs central to federal semiconductor and emerging technology investment.

Earlier in her career, Mitchell served as a Team Chief at the Pentagon in support of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering, where she directed engagements on technologies including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, quantum, biotechnology, robotics, and space.

Mitchell was also Chief of Staff to two members of Congress, guiding hundreds of provisions into law through annual defense and intelligence legislative vehicles such as the National Defense Authorization Act, the Intelligence Authorization Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act. Her experience includes implementing the CHIPS and Science Act and work on AI, quantum, and other emerging technology issues.
