DLA Piper bolsters IP and Technology ranks with seasoned patent litigator Calum Smyth
"DLA Piper hires Calum Smyth as partner in its IP and Technology practice. Smyth, a patent litigator with 25 years' experience, joins from Wiggin LLP to strengthen cross-border IP advisory, disputes and IP strategy."
Smyth is a seasoned patent litigator and strategic IP advisor with 25 years’ experience across private practice and in‑house settings. He will be based in DLA Piper’s London office and will reinforce the firm’s cross‑border IP advisory and international dispute capabilities.
His background spans financial services, technology and FMCG. He has established a reputation for managing technically complex, multi‑jurisdictional patent and copyright litigation and mediation, including matters relating to AI, software, biotech and telecoms.
Beyond contentious work, Smyth regularly advises clients on building and enforcing intellectual property rights, navigating third‑party IP risks and on complex IP transactions. He is recognised by IAM among the world’s leading IP strategists and currently sits on the UK Council of AIPPI.
Smyth joins DLA Piper from Wiggin LLP, where he was a partner for over five years, having previously served as Global Head of IP for Barclays.
