Manatt, Phelps & Phillips Welcomes Julie Brill as National Advisor for AI Governance, Privacy and Consumer Protection

Brill joins Manatt from Microsoft, where she served as Chief Privacy Officer and Corporate Vice President for Global Privacy, Safety and Regulatory Affairs. At Microsoft she acted as a “Tech Ambassador,” leading global advocacy on privacy, digital sovereignty, artificial intelligence and responsible data use, advising major commercial customers on trust and compliance, and overseeing regulatory strategy on AI, digital safety and lawful access. Earlier in her career, Brill served as a Commissioner of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, addressing consumer privacy, data protection, financial fraud prevention and competition matters in health care and high-tech markets.
At Manatt she will advise on responsible AI, privacy and data security, consumer protection and adtech, and support the firm’s AI governance and strategy offerings, drawing on her experience as a lawyer, regulator and executive.
