CMS to reshuffle Spanish IP and TMT practice

"CMS is reshuffling its Spanish IP and TMT practice: Álvaro Seijo is expected to join from Uría Menéndez to cover IP and industrial property, while Javier Torre de Silva will lead TMT and digital at CMS Spain."

Álvaro Seijo is expected to join CMS from Uría Menéndez; Javier Torre de Silva will assume a leading role within CMS Spain.

The reshuffle follows market reports that María González Gordon, a prominent name in the Spanish IP market, is expected to be on her way out of CMS. González Gordon stepped down from the firm’s management in April 2025 but remained head of the Intellectual Property, Industrial Property and Digital Business practice.

Álvaro Seijo was counsel at Uría Menéndez, where he advised on intellectual property, digital law, unfair competition and advertising. According to market chatter, Seijo would take on the intellectual and industrial property side of González Gordon’s work.

Javier Torre de Silva is partner and Head of TMC at CMS Spain, with extensive experience in telecommunications, media and technology matters. He is reported to become the key figure on the TMT and digital front. The two are expected to split the practice by area, with Seijo taking IP and industrial property and Torre de Silva taking TMT and digital.

No official confirmation of María González Gordon’s departure from CMS has yet surfaced.
