Gregory E. Fosheim has joined McGuireWoods as a partner in Chicago.

Fosheim is an accomplished healthcare and life sciences attorney and former public health microbiologist who counsels healthcare providers, health systems, physician practice management companies, clinical laboratories and life sciences clients on transactional and operational matters. His work focuses on regulatory requirements, licensing, accreditation and policy considerations; he also advises on clinical and diagnostic laboratory issues, anatomic pathology and fertility laboratory compliance. He joins McGuireWoods as a partner and comes to the firm from McDermott Will & Schulte.

Before his legal career, Fosheim was a microbiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, where he advised and trained hospital and public health laboratories on infection control and clinical testing standards and served as a principal researcher in the epidemiology of MRSA infections.

Fosheim is a prolific writer and speaker on healthcare nondiscrimination requirements, including those arising under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and related state nondiscrimination laws, and advises healthcare entities on compliance with evolving federal guidelines and executive orders as well as rights of conscience and moral-objection protections.
