Sidley Expands Investment Funds Capabilities With New York Partners Cliff Cone, Michael Sabin, and Dan Drabkin

Cliff Cone joins Sidley from Clifford Chance, where he served as co-head of the U.S. Funds and Investment Management practice. He focuses primarily on the investment management sector and advises alternative investment managers, registered investment companies (including interval funds and ETFs), business development companies (BDCs), specialty finance companies, and boards of directors on matters under the Investment Company Act and the Investment Advisers Act. He has extensive experience with the organization and ongoing representation of U.S. registered closed-end investment companies, crypto-focused funds, hedge funds, private equity funds, and commodity funds.
Michael Sabin joins Sidley from Clifford Chance, where he served as co-head of the U.S. Funds and Investment Management practice. He advises investment managers on the structuring, formation and operation of closed-end and hybrid private funds and accounts across strategies — including private equity, credit, asset-backed lending, growth, real assets, energy and infrastructure — from first-time funds through multi-billion dollar fundraises. He also advises on related strategic manager transactions and internal arrangements, GP-led liquidity solutions and fund restructurings, and represents sponsors, investors and management teams in minority investments, joint ventures, spinouts, platform launches and seeding arrangements.
Dan Drabkin joins Sidley from Clifford Chance. He advises fund sponsors across the spectrum of private capital, with significant experience in the formation of real assets, credit and private equity funds and funds-of-funds. He is highly regarded for his experience in secondaries transactions and establishing continuation funds, representing fund sponsors in implementing liquidity solutions for their LPs as well as lead and syndicate investors investing into continuation funds. He is a leading adviser in private credit secondaries and has counseled fund sponsors on launching private credit secondaries funds and on numerous transactions in the sector.
