Betre Gizaw Rejoins King & Spalding as Partner on International Trade Team

Gizaw returns from Stripe, Inc., where he served as Chief Counsel for Global Strategic Initiatives in the Office of the General Counsel, advising the global General Counsel, C-suite executives, and investors on regulatory risk, strategic growth, and operational readiness. He previously served as General Counsel of Paystack, a Stripe subsidiary focused on online commerce across Africa, where he scaled teams, built the legal and compliance function, and served on Paystack’s Board of Directors and Audit Committee.
At King & Spalding, Gizaw will focus his practice on advising global companies on international trade compliance, investigations, and policy issues, with particular emphasis on FinTech, artificial intelligence, crypto, and other enabling technologies. His practice will include advising on sanctions and export controls, anti-money laundering, CFIUS compliance and investigations, and cross-border regulatory strategy and risk.
Prior to joining Stripe in 2018, Gizaw was a senior associate on King & Spalding’s International Trade team. He received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law and his B.A. from Northeastern University.
