Thoreau Bartmann Joins K&L Gates as Partner in Asset Management and Investment Funds Practice

Thoreau Bartmann has joined global law firm K&L Gates LLP as a partner in the firm’s Washington, DC office and as a member of its Asset Management and Investment Funds (AMIF) practice.

Bartmann joins K&L Gates from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he spent more than 20 years and most recently served as Co-Chief Counsel of the Division of Investment Management. He has also served at the Commission as Senior Policy Adviser to the head of the Asset Management Unit of the Division of Enforcement and as a Branch Chief for the Rulemaking Office. Bartmann brings deep experience across regulatory, enforcement, and compliance matters, including the Investment Advisers Act, the Investment Company Act, and securities enforcement. At the SEC he led the team that adopted the Adviser Marketing rule, supervised the Division of Investment Management’s enforcement and examination work, and served as a liaison to the Commission’s Crypto Task Force. He brings knowledge of rulemaking, cross-border regulatory engagement, digital assets, and fund governance to his role at K&L Gates.
